A Plan to Revitalize Our Community Pool
A renovated pool house for the summer 2026 season marks just the beginning of our plans!
December 2025: Phase 1 of the construction of the pool house begins.
Our fundraising will directly support the construction costs for renovating the existing pool house at Woodley Gardens Pool, as the current facilities make the pool inoperable. Without your support, we will be unable to open the pool for 2026.
May - June, 2026 & 2027: Pool Opens for Summer seasons with the existing pool and new pool house facilities.
The team will continue to raise funds and build capital reserves to secure a business loan for constructing a new pool and replacing the aging structure currently in place.
Fall 2027: Projected start time for Phase 2 – replacement of existing pools at Woodley.
This timeline may change based on our fundraising goals; the more we raise now, the faster we could start replacing the pool.
May 2028: New Pool opens for the summer season.
Complete renovation of the existing swimming pool and baby pool to bring the structures up to date.
2028 and beyond:
Increase revenue for our new pool by renting it out during the off-season to cover debt service obligations.

Finances and Fundraising
-

The property is owned by Georgetown Hill Early Schools (GHES). It will be subdivided into two sections: Plat A (daycare) and Plat B (pool house and pool).
During Construction (12-18 months):
GHES will lease the pool to the Woodley Gardens Community Swim and Recreation Association (WGCSRA) for $1 per year, ensuring pool access starting summer 2026.
The pool house will be rebuilt for the summer 2026 season.
After Construction:
GHES will sell Plat B to WGCSRA for $1.
WGCSRA must build a new heated pool within three years, or GHES can buy back the property.
GHES will lease the pool during the off-season and retains the right to use it before summer (not applicable in 2026).
This proposal is subject to lender and legal review and negotiations with GHES.

We aim to raise over $1 million in total capital, to finance the construction of a new pool house and new pool. The project is currently estimated to cost approximately $3 million, and will be aimed to be completed over 3-4 years. We are starting with a fundraising target of over $250,000 by the end of December 2025 to finance the construction of the pool house.

Yes. WGCSRA requires sufficient capital for a down payment on a construction project. If we are able to raise a significant amount of donations, we can reassess and adjust the financial requirements for each membership unit.

Incentives
-

WGCSRA recognizes the unique contribution that founding members will be making and is exploring options to incentivize and appreciate our founding members.
Please share your feedback on what incentives would be most appealing to you.

The WGCSRA has proposed a financial contribution that is necessary to execute the project and is largely in line with area pools. Woodley members have enjoyed below-market rates for many years (due in large part to the unique ownership situation) but this approach has led to insufficient financial reserves and less than adequate facilities. The pool relies on the support of the community and the Woodley Waves Swim Team. We need the financial backing of the community to restore and revitalize the pool to its rightful state.

Construction Timeline / GHES
-

The impact of delays on the project will depend on the specific reasons behind them, particularly regarding the building plans and permits that apply to the entire project. WGCSRA will seek to account for contingencies and unforeseen events in the agreement with GHES.

Risks
-

If the project does not proceed, all donations and membership dues will be refunded and returned to the community members.

Membership
-

We are anticipating enrollment for the next swim season to open in early 2026.

Swim Team

The Waves swim team has been based at Woodley Gardens Pool for over sixty years. As a competitive team in MCSL Division F, they are welcoming to all swimmers and are known for their outstanding team spirit. The swim team operates independently from the pool; however, once the pool reopens, all swimmers will be required to hold membership at Woodley Gardens Pool.
